About Creative Silk

In all products designed and made by Lynne Sanders the process begins with a piece of white silk stretched onto a frame and handpainted with silk dyes. This is steam set to make lighfast.

Most products feature designs inspired by Australian flora and fauna and particularly the Royal Bluebell which is the floral emblem for the Australian Capital Territory where Lynne has lived for the past 25 years. Red flowering gum is a particularly  favourite subject for Lynne.

Scarves : Original designs are drawn using a gutta resist in metallic or pearlised colours to restrain the flow of the dyes.Watercolour  techniques are used as well as wax as a resist.

Bookmarks : These are embellished with free machine embroidery after painting.

Gumleaf  bookmarks have gumnuts attached with leather thonging. Gang – gang cockatoo (faunal emblem of ACT) has feathers as his comb. Sulphur crested cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets, crimson rosellas and eastern rosellas are also available. (not pictured)

Handbags : The painted silk is padded and free machine embroidered often with added surface embellishment. The top of the bag has a magnetic closure and shoulder strap.

All are original design and many are “one of a kind.”

Gallery : Works featured  are handpainted then free machine embroidered using the sewing machine as a drawing tool. Lynne likes to leave parts of the silk showing to contrast with the texture of the stitching which can be built up to be 3 dimensional.

A great many colours are used to create the scenes which are mostly local Canberra area locations . These are then mounted and framed using acid free matboard.

As all designs and products are individually produced some variations occur in colours, textures and design Prices and further information may be obtained by email at: creativesilk@creativesilk.com.au or creativesilk@yahoo.com
